This month’s sacrificial author is the elusive D de Carvalho, a writer who thinks in Pink. In his Hot Pink series, D. de Carvalho serves up a smorgasbord of hot ‘n spicy erotic tales with no holds barred. Whether you savor sweet romance or crave the delicious tang of dark desire, Carvalho caters with tales to tempt every taste. Each sexy story arrives with a side order of humor, sprinkled with a touch of suspense, paranormal or mystery.
I’ve read both his current titles Hot Pink Heels and Hot Pink Dragon. They’re funny, sexy, different from the mainstream, and very different from each other. Heels is unabashed sex. Dragon is as sweet a romance as you could ask for, with some steamy love and a cute twist at the end.
I caught up with D as he was chasing some kids off his lawn and got him to slow down long enough to answer a few questions.
Francisco: How’s it going D? D? Ow! … Hey, wait… No really, I’m not the one who ate your tulips… Ouch! D!
Carvalho: And don’t do it again! Eh? What? *peers closer* That you, Cordoba?
Francisco: Yes, it’s me. Do I look like a ten-year-old with a tulip-eating puppy?
Carvalho: You really want me to answer that?
Francisco: Never mind. I’m hoping for that interview you promised me.
Carvalho: Interview? Oh, right, you want to ask some tedious questions.
Carvalho: *Whacks bushes with cane* Get on with it then, boy.
Francisco: Um… So, uh, how much research do you do before you write a story?
Carvalho: Whatever I need. Hot Pink stories are generally light and often whimsical in nature, although they sometimes touch on more serious issues. I do research when required to keep the integrity of the story, but I try to spend much more time writing. The exception is researching for the sex scenes. I do that as often and as practically as possible.
Carvalho: *Leers* Exactly. Wanna help? Bend over.
Francisco: *Scuttles away* Uh, not right now, thanks. *Backs up to tree* So, next question: What is the hardest thing about writing?
Carvalho: Did you seriously just ask me that? *Winks* What do you think?
Francisco: Um, I think I’d like you to stop looking at me like that and answer the question…please.
Carvalho: *Sighs* Okay. The hardest thing about writing is doing it. Sometimes just forcing myself to sit down at the keyboard and not give in to distractions. Life is busy. There are many calls on my time and attention. *Whacks bush and sends distressed child running* Focusing on the writing, so I don’t self-edit as I go, and thus not write as well as I’m able, can be a challenge at times
Francisco: What is your favorite food?
Carvalho: I love fresh fruit and whipped cream together. There’s something naturally erotic about the taste and the sensation as they slide down my throat. So many colours. So many textures. Different fruits remind me of different exotic locations I have lived and loved over the years. And the smell of fruit reminds me of summer.
Francisco: What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Carvalho: Read the classics. Read contemporary literature. Read about writing. Write until your heart burns and your eyes bleed. And have sex. LOTS of sex
Francisco: What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Carvalho: Sex. Well, no, sex actually inspires me to stay in bed each day. Fine food inspires me to get out of bed and eat it. Writing inspires me to get out of bed and write about the sex I had or plan to have or can imagine having. Oh, and arguing with fellow writer and editor, Francisco Cordoba–heard of him? Yeah, giving him a hard *leers* time is one of the main reasons I get up each day. Oh, and keeping people off my damn lawn. *Shakes fist at passing family*
